Relationship between Plastics and Circular Economy

Meet ( GILBERT ABOAGYE BOYE ) a Ghanaian teacher who teaches at OFOASE SENIOR HIGH TECHNICAL SCHOOL. At Asante Akim south, juaso Municipal.

He discovered this passion at the time of the COVID 19 Lockdown. As a serious person , he uses only sachets of water to produce a lot of things : such as ;#LapTop Sleeves, #BagPack, Lunch bags , Hand bags , and many more . Gabidezin affectionately called in Sustainability world also designs nose mask in a creative way The name of the mask is called G20FaceMask. Plastic film, which includes many types of bags and wrap, is everywhere in our lives. In part because of their convenience and abundance, though, plastic water sachet bags are often used in excess, wasted, buried in landfills or littered in our streets, natural areas and surface waters.

There are easy and cost-effective ways to reduce waste and recapture the benefits of plastic water sachet bags and wrap after their initial use. Individuals and businesses can reduce excessive use of water sachet bags and wrap, reuse them or recycle them. Water Sachets bags used in the packaging drinking water can be recycled and is in high demand by consumers as a raw material. Individuals, schools, non-profits, workplaces and communities can collect plastic bags and wrap for recycling or promote local recycling programs. One opportunity for involvement is through Do Away With Plastics In Schools DAWPIS projects. Gabidezins DAWPIS project is providing young people with vocational and entrepreneurship skills in the green and circular economy space, more specifically in plastic waste management, sustainable fashion designing , and plastic waste management. Approximately 70% of plastic input materials in Ghana are used only for packaging. Out of the total plastic waste generated in the country, only 5% is collected for recycling.

At Gabidezin DAWPIS project, we want to transform plastic waste into a resource that can stimulate a sustainable circular economy in the Community. To contribute to transforming the plastic waste challenge into an opportunity, the DAWPIS project is providing technical vocational and entrepreneurship education to young people in plastic waste management. this project is helping young people develop two critical skills necessary for job creation in the current dispensation blending technical and vocational skills as well as entrepreneurship education” and he urged “TVET institutions to promote entrepreneurship education for job creation and impact”.

Environmental knowledge and attitudes are key elements for changing human actions. Efforts have been made to introduce environmental education as a awareness, or part of our campaign , in the school. This limitation is mostly due to the lack of applicable and positive environmental attitudes by the school educators. For effective implementation, educators should be thoroughly aware of environmental education aspects, as only then can they make future generations aware of these environmental problems, challenges and their possible solutions. However, it has been noted that there is a significant discrepancy between people’s attitudes and their actual behavior Therefore, it has been suggested that educators, being role models, should not only develop a positive attitude but also actually practice environmental protection behavior. In turn, this will help in developing similar attitudes and actions in following generations.
